The Lagos State Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture will bring together tourism stakeholders for a workshop to strengthen community participation in tourism development across the state.
The workshop, scheduled for 8 October 2026, will take place at the Lagos State Council for Arts and Culture Auditorium in Ikeja. It will focus on the theme, “Strengthening Community-Based Tourism: Building Sustainable Tourism through Community Participation.”
According to the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Bopo Oyekan-Ismaila, the workshop will provide an opportunity for stakeholders to develop practical approaches to promoting community ownership and participation in tourism.
She said the initiative forms part of the ministry’s efforts to help communities identify and develop tourism resources within their areas while promoting their cultural and recreational attractions.

Oyekan-Ismaila also stressed the importance of Local Government Areas (LGAs) and Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) in identifying tourism opportunities at the grassroots.
She said stronger involvement of local authorities would help ensure that residents play an active role in developing tourism and benefit economically from the sector.
The ministry has invited representatives of LGAs and LCDAs across the state to participate in the workshop and share knowledge about tourism opportunities in their respective communities.

The organisers said discussions at the event would cover ideas, practical experiences and workable approaches that could stimulate local economic activity and further strengthen Lagos’ position as a major tourism destination.
The workshop is expected to attract participants from both the public and private sectors, with organisers stressing the need for collaboration among stakeholders to successfully develop and implement community-based tourism initiatives across Lagos.
