Cristiano Ronaldo honoured by Guinness World Records for attaining record international caps by male player

Portugal forward Cristiano Ronaldo has received the Guinness World Records certificate, alongside a plaque award for reaching 200 international appearances, NRTC reports.

On Tuesday, the 38-year-old became the first male player in history to appear in 200 international games.

Ronaldo achieved this feat during Portugal’s Euro 2024 Qualifiers match against Iceland, a game in which the Seleção won 1-0 with Ronaldo grabbing the only goal of the encounter in the 89th minute.

In March, the former Manchester United and Real Madrid man broke Kuwait forward Bader Al-Mutawa’s 196-cap record. Before kickoff on Tuesday, Ronaldo was honoured by Guinness World Records for reaching the milestone.

To honour his historic achievement, the Al-Nassr star was presented with an official certificate and a Portugal shirt adorned with the number “200” printed boldly on the back, symbolising his record-breaking caps.

Ronaldo is Portugal’s all-time record scorer with 123 goals. He also holds the record for the most international hat-tricks with ten.

The superstar stated that he has no intentions of retiring from international football anytime soon. He promised to continue making an impact on the international stage.
