Dangote Cement opens 100bn CFA plant in Côte d’Ivoire

Dangote Cement Plc has commissioned a new 3 million metric tonne cement plant in Attingué, Côte d’Ivoire, valued at 100 billion CFA francs, marking its 11th production facility in Africa.

The state-of-the-art plant, located 30 kilometres from Abidjan, spans 50 hectares and is designed to boost Côte d’Ivoire’s construction sector, reduce cement imports, and strengthen local supply chains.

Managing Director of Dangote Cement Côte d’Ivoire, Serge Gbotta, said the project reflects confidence in the country’s industrial future.

“This plant is more than an industrial unit—it is a symbol of trust in Côte d’Ivoire’s potential. Our goal is to provide Ivorians with world-class cement at competitive prices,” he said.

The new facility is expected to generate over 1,000 jobs, directly and indirectly, while stimulating local small and medium-sized enterprises such as transporters, artisans, and suppliers.

Commercial Director Stéphane Tchimou said the plant will enhance cement availability nationwide through a strengthened distribution network.

“Reliable cement is key to infrastructure growth. We are also providing credit and commercial support to empower small retailers,” he said.

Dangote Cement announced plans to train young engineers and technicians through the Dangote Academy, promoting industrial skills development across the region.

The company also pledged to support community projects, including road construction, clean water supply, and healthcare initiatives in partnership with local authorities and NGOs.

Group President Aliko Dangote said the plant aligns with his vision for Africa’s industrial self-sufficiency. “Our mission is to build industries that empower Africa to produce, not import,” he said.

The Attingué facility will produce multiple premium grades: CPJ 32.5R, CPJ 42.5N, and CPA 52.5, making Côte d’Ivoire a regional hub for cement production and export.
