Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong has addressed the ongoing controversy surrounding reports of a players’ boycott over unpaid allowances, assuring fans that the team remains united and focused ahead of Thursday’s 2026 FIFA World Cup playoff against Gabon in Rabat.
In a post shared on his official X (formerly Twitter) account, the defender clarified the situation. He emphasised that while the issue of unpaid bonuses remains unresolved, the team’s priority is their upcoming semi-final fixture.
“Once resolution is found, we will be the first to confirm. Any other statement or claim—especially demands other than the rightful request written about below—is false. All we want and continue to do is focus on the big games ahead,” Troost-Ekong wrote.

His statement comes after reports emerged on Tuesday that players and officials had refused to train over unpaid bonuses and allowances. The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has yet to issue a formal response, though discussions are said to be ongoing to address the matter swiftly.
Nigeria faces Gabon in the semi-final of the African playoff mini-tournament at the Prince Héritier Moulay El Hassan Stadium in Rabat on Thursday, with a potential final showdown on Sunday against either Cameroon or DR Congo awaiting the winner.
