NFF moves to snatch Newcastle striker Osula from Denmark

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has opened preliminary talks with Newcastle United forward William Osula over a potential switch of international allegiance from Denmark to the Super Eagles.

Danish outlet Tipsbladet first reported, with journalist Farzam Abolhosseini confirming that the NFF made contact through the player’s representatives.

Osula, 22, was born in Copenhagen to a Danish mother and a Nigerian‑French father, making him eligible for both nations. He received his first senior call‑up for Denmark’s March World Cup qualifiers against North Macedonia and the Czech Republic but remained on the bench for both matches. That unused status leaves him eligible to switch under FIFA rules.

In-form Osula attracts Super Eagles interest

The Newcastle striker has scored three goals in his last four Premier League appearances, including a 90th‑minute winner against Manchester United at St James’ Park, and has made 43 appearances across all competitions for the Magpies since a £15million move from Sheffield United in 2024.

Denmark manager Brian Riemer has spoken highly of Osula, praising his “exceptional top‑level skills with his speed” and describing his pressing game as “ins*nely good”. Yet the Scandinavian nation failed to qualify for the 2026 World Cup, a factor that could tilt the balance in Nigeria’s favour.
