Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) and Kwara State Governor, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, has congratulated President Bola Tinubu on his recent state visit to the United Kingdom, describing it as a bold and defining moment in Nigeria’s diplomatic engagement.

Speaking during a visit to the President, AbdulRazaq said the trip — the first of its kind in nearly four decades — had opened the door to fresh investment opportunities and strengthened bilateral relations in ways that would directly impact Nigerians.

AbdulRazaq noted that while Nigeria had long maintained cordial ties with the UK, the visit marked a clear shift towards deeper, more strategic collaboration.

He commended the President for securing key economic commitments, adding that the outcome reflected growing international confidence in Nigeria’s leadership and policy direction.

On security, the NGF Chairman said both federal and state governments were aligning efforts to tackle insecurity more effectively.

He disclosed that the Governors’ Forum had been working closely with the Presidency and the National Security Adviser to develop a framework for the establishment of state police.

“The NGF has made its contributions. We will now take the document to the National Assembly to work towards a legislative framework for state police,” he said.

The move, he noted, represents a significant step towards decentralising policing and improving localised security responses.

The visit also reflected a rare moment of political unity, as AbdulRazaq led a delegation of more than 20 governors from across party lines to celebrate Eid-el-Fitr with the President.

Governors from the All Progressives Congress (APC), Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and other parties were in attendance, signalling a shared commitment to national cohesion, security, and economic growth.

Among those present were governors from the South-East, South-South, South-West, and Northern regions, underscoring a broad-based consensus on key national priorities.
