PSG defender Achraf Hakimi has become the most decorated African player in football history. The Moroccan full‑back secured his 19th major trophy on Saturday when Paris Saint‑Germain retained the Champions League, defeating Arsenal on penalties in Budapest.
The 27‑year‑old surpasses Cameroonian legend Samuel Eto’o and Ivorian icon Yaya Touré, who each concluded their careers with 18 major honours. With a career still in its prime, Hakimi has climbed to the peak of African football.
The record was confirmed as PSG beat Arsenal 4‑3 in a shootout following a 1‑1 draw after extra time. Hakimi played the full 120 minutes at right‑back, adding his second consecutive Champions League triumph with the Parisians to the one he won with Real Madrid in 2018.
That treble in Europe’s elite competition matches Eto’o, who won his three with Barcelona (2006, 2009) and Inter Milan (2010).
His full trophy cabinet illustrates sustained excellence across three major leagues. Hakimi has won five Ligue 1 titles with PSG, a Serie A crown with Inter Milan, two French Cups, four Trophée des Champions, a UEFA Super Cup, a FIFA Club World Cup, a German Super Cup (from his brief loan at Borussia Dortmund) and a Spanish Super Cup from his Real Madrid days. He also captained Morocco to the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations title.
