Adebayo Adedamola has emerged as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate for the Osun 2026 election, securing the party’s ticket at a primary held in Osogbo on Tuesday.

Adedamola received 919 votes out of a total of 957 votes cast by delegates.

Humphrey Abba, the chairman of the primary election committee, announced the result.

He stated that, “The candidate that got the remaining votes is Adebayo Adedamola with 919 votes and stands elected and returned.”

He noted that there were 20 void votes, and one of the aspirants had previously withdrawn.

NRTC earlier reported that the primary proceeded despite Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke announcing his resignation from the PDP.

Adeleke’s resignation letter, dated November 4, 2025, was addressed to the PDP Ward 2 Chairman, Sagba Abogunde, of Ede North Local Government.

The letter attributed the decision to the current crisis within the national leadership of the PDP.

However, Adeleke’s name remained on the ballot paper as one of the two aspirants seeking the ticket.

The Secretary of the Committee, Sunday Solarin, had announced the start of voting, clarifying that while Adeleke was an aspirant, his resignation meant that any votes cast for him would “eventually amount to waste.

“The primary was initially scheduled for December 2 but was delayed due to the ongoing crises within the state chapter of the PDP, according to Osun PDP Chairman Sunday Bisi.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) timetable for the August 8, 2026, Osun governorship poll mandates that parties must submit the names of their flagbearers by December 15.

The primary was monitored by representatives of INEC and a committee led by Humphrey Abba from the PDP national headquarters.

Security was heavy at the venue, with operatives from the Department of State Security, the police, and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps present.
