President of the African Development Bank (AfDB), Dr. Akinwumi Adesina, has expressed gratitude to former President Muhammadu Buhari for the strong support he received during his elections as AfDB President.
In a post shared on X on Thursday, Adesina said he recently visited Buhari to personally acknowledge his role in backing his candidacy.
“I visited President Buhari to express my deep appreciation for his incredibly supporting my nomination by President Jonathan for election as President, African Development Bank,” Adesina wrote.

He also credited Buhari’s unwavering support during difficult moments as a major factor behind his successful re-election in 2020.
“He strongly stood by me in difficult times, which ensured my re-election. Thank you Sir,” the post read.
Adesina, who served as Nigeria’s Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development before taking up his role at the AfDB, was first elected President of the Bank in 2015 with the endorsement of then-President Goodluck Jonathan.
He secured a second term in 2020, following intense international scrutiny, with Buhari playing a critical role in rallying support for his re-election.
