AGN Lagos mourns veteran actor Taiwo Hassan, ‘Ogogo’

The Lagos State Chapter of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) has expressed sadness over the reported death of veteran Nollywood actor, Chief Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo.

Hassan was reportedly said to have died on Sunday, August 23, 2026.

In a statement released on behalf of the chairman, executives and members of the guild, AGN Lagos described Ogogo as a prominent figure in the Nigerian film industry whose career and contributions spanned over three decades.

The guild said the late actor earned widespread recognition for his distinctive screen presence, commanding voice and commitment to telling authentic Nigerian stories.

Beyond his acting career, the guild described Ogogo as a mentor who influenced younger practitioners, a disciplined professional on set and a strong advocate of Yoruba culture and Nigerian values.

The Director of Communications of the AGN Lagos State Chapter said the actor’s death represented a significant loss to the Nigerian creative industry.

“Ogogo’s death is a huge loss to the creative industry. He represented excellence, integrity and the golden era of Nollywood. We celebrate his life, his works and the indelible mark he left on our industry,” the statement said.

The guild extended its condolences to Hassan’s family, the national leadership and members of the Actors Guild of Nigeria, the wider Nollywood community and his fans around the world.

It also prayed for the repose of his soul and asked God to give his family the strength to cope with the loss.

The AGN Lagos Chapter added that details of plans for a befitting tribute and funeral would be announced later after consultations with the deceased’s family and the national body of the Actors Guild of Nigeria.
