What Ogogo told me before he died – Yinka Quadri

Nollywood actor Yinka Quadri has spoken about the final moments he shared with his close friend and fellow actor, Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, before his death.

Ogogo died on Sunday after battling stage four cancer and was buried the following day in his hometown around Ilaro, Ogun State.

Quadri, who was known to have a close relationship with Ogogo, was among those who attended his burial.

He was seen in tears during the funeral as he mourned the loss of his longtime friend.

In his first public account of the actor’s final hours, Quadri described their relationship as one that went beyond ordinary friendship.

He recalled that they had often referred to themselves as twins from heaven despite being born to different mothers.

According to Quadri, his last visit to Ogogo took place at the hospital a few hours before the actor died.

He said he became emotional when he saw his friend lying on the hospital bed because of the condition he was in.

Quadri recalled that Ogogo noticed his tears and tried to reassure him that he would be fine.

The actor’s response gave Quadri hope at the time, as he believed his friend might recover from the illness.

He also recalled another moment during the hospital visit when Ogogo asked him to bring him a bottle of water that was nearby. Quadri said Ogogo drank the water despite having eaten earlier that morning.

The development gave Quadri more hope because he saw it as a sign that Ogogo was still able to take food and water despite his health condition.

He said he sought confirmation from the doctors about whether Ogogo had actually eaten earlier that day, and they confirmed that he had.

Quadri said the confirmation strengthened his faith and made him believe that Ogogo could still recover.

However, the doctors advised those around the actor to continue praying and remain hopeful.

Yinka said, “I will never forget the last time I saw you at the hospital. You were lying on your sick bed, and when I saw you, I could not hold back my tears. You looked at me and said, ‘Yinka, don’t cry. Nothing bad will happen to me.’ And I responded, ‘Yes, Amen.’

“A few minutes later, you asked me to give you the bottle of water on the table. I gave it to you, and you drank from it. Then you looked at me and said, ‘Yinka, can you see that I drank the water, even though I ate this morning?’ You asked the doctors to confirm whether it was true that you had eaten that morning, and they confirmed it.

“At that moment, I said ‘glory be to God’. My hope and faith became even stronger. But the doctors only advised us to remain prayerful.”
