The Leader of the 10th Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Michael Opeyemi Bamidele, has congratulated Governor Biodun Oyebanji on his victory in the 2026 Ekiti State governorship election.
He described the win as a defining moment in the state’s political history.
In a statement released on his X page, Bamidele noted that Oyebanji has broken a long-standing jinx by becoming the first governor in Ekiti State to secure a back-to-back re-election since the return to democracy in 1999.

According to him, the governor’s historic victory is a direct reflection of his inclusive leadership style and his performance in office over his first term.
“Oyebanji’s approach to governance and politics significantly contributed to his re-election,” Bamidele stated.

“He made history in Ekiti State as the first governor to be re-elected back-to-back since 1999, a testament to his approach to governance and his ability to unite the state’s stakeholders across party lines.”
The lawmaker expressed strong confidence that the renewed mandate would allow the administration to deepen its structural changes and solidify the state’s reputation for political consistency.
“While congratulating him, I believe his second term will consolidate ongoing reforms, deepen development initiatives, and further position Ekiti State as a model of good governance and political stability in the country,” Bamidele added.
Bamidele also extended his appreciation to the citizens of Ekiti State, praising them for their orderly conduct throughout the entire duration of the off-cycle election.
He emphasised that their peaceful participation serves as a strong endorsement of democratic values.
