The Bayelsa State Government has received the draft constitution of the Twon-Brass Kingdom as it intensifies efforts to resolve a prolonged chieftaincy dispute in Otakeme community, Ogbia Local Government Area.
Receiving the document at Government House, Yenagoa, Deputy Governor Peter Akpe commended the Twon-Brass Constitution Drafting Committee for completing the document within the stipulated timeframe.
To ensure broad acceptance, Akpe directed the committee to submit the draft for ratification at an all-inclusive congress that would involve representatives of the kingdom’s five constituent communities.

He also directed the committee to work with relevant stakeholders to produce at least 300 copies of the draft constitution for distribution across the kingdom.
According to him, residents and stakeholders will have the opportunity to review the document and make contributions before its formal adoption at a general assembly.

The state government also inaugurated a five-member committee to supervise the ratification process.
The committee, chaired by Charles Daniel, member representing Brass Constituency 1 in the Bayelsa State House of Assembly, has eight weeks to complete its assignment.
Other members are Chief Victor Sam-Ateki, Chief Doigha Eweli, Chief Joseph Laderi and Chief Golden Sintei.
Presenting the draft, Chairman of the Twon-Brass Constitution Drafting Committee, His Highness Kune Igoni-Claudius, outlined the consultations and procedures that produced the document.

He expressed confidence that the draft would provide an effective framework for the administration of the kingdom’s traditional institution and thanked the paramount rulers and state government for their support.
