An Air Peace flight traveling from Lagos to Port Harcourt was delayed on Thursday after the aircraft collided with a bird while approaching Port Harcourt International Airport.

The impact prompted safety inspections on the plane, and the airline arranged for another aircraft to transport affected passengers on later flights.

Air Peace in a statement said the incident caused unavoidable disruptions, and the airline worked quickly to ensure passengers continued their journeys safely.

Bird strikes have become a recurring issue for Nigerian airlines, occasionally grounding aircraft and affecting flight schedules.

In its last report, Air Peace revealed that between January and September 2025, the airline recorded 49 bird strike incidents across the country.

Even a single strike can force an aircraft out of service for several weeks due to necessary repairs.

Airline officials noted that these incidents not only disrupt schedules but also increase operational costs.

The airline’s management explained that bird strikes, combined with heavy taxes and other operational hurdles, continue to challenge domestic carriers in maintaining smooth flight operations.
