Reality TV star Queen Mercy Atang has shared more details about the outfit she wore to the 12th Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards.
She explained in an interview with BBC that the dress, made from bread, was very heavy and caused her physical pain. She said it affected her back and left her with a wound from the pressure.
According to her, she did not expect the outfit to gain so much attention and said she thought reactions would be mixed. She also said she was emotional while preparing for the event and even cried before finally deciding to wear it.

She added that she almost did not attend the event this year, but her designer convinced her. She arrived late to the red carpet and it was already closed.

She also said she felt too weak to stay long at the venue because of the weight of the outfit and was surprised that her look went viral, even as she feared some people might think it was created with AI.
She said: “The weight of that dress almost broke my waist. If you check my back, I have a serious wound because that bread was very heavy. I didn’t expect that my dress would go this viral. I felt like some people would like it, while some won’t. That cloth was heavy. I cried first. The first few seconds I wore it, I took it off and cried before putting it back on. Funny enough, I didn’t want to go to AMVCA this year, but my designer convinced me.
“I even arrived at the red carpet very late; it was even closed. I didn’t want to post the pictures because I felt people would think it was AI. I won’t lie, I didn’t enter to go and sit. The weight of that dress was too much. I was so weak and tired.”
Recall that the former BBNaija star attracted global attention over her unusual outfit made with 500 loaves of bread, to the 12th Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA).
