Bruno Fernandes has equalled Cristiano Ronaldo’s Premier League goal contributions for Manchester United. The Portuguese captain now has 70 goals and 70 assists in the competition.
The milestone came during United’s recent match against Brentford where Fernandes provided another assist, his 19th of the league season. That takes his combined tally to 140, matching the number Ronaldo registered across his two spells at Old Trafford.
Ronaldo scored 103 goals and provided 37 assists in 236 Premier League appearances. Fernandes has reached the same 140 contributions in just 188 games, showing how significant the efficiency gap is.
The record assist
Fernandes is also closing in on history. He now has 19 assists this season, one behind the all-time Premier League record of 20, jointly held by Thierry Henry (2002/03) and Kevin De Bruyne (2019/20).
Henry’s 20 assists all came from open play. De Bruyne had 17 from open play and three from set pieces. Fernandes has 10 open-play assists this season. The remaining nine have come from corners and free kicks. The sheer volume still puts him on the cusp of the record.
“When you look at the names above him, you realise what company he keeps,” said former United captain Gary Neville.

Fernandes now sits on 70 goals and 70 assists. The balance is remarkable for a player who operates primarily as an attacking midfielder. No other Premier League midfielder has reached such a balanced double-double for a single club.
The season is not over. United have a few matches remaining. One more assist is all that separates Bruno Fernandes from standing alone at the top of the assist charts. The Portuguese captain has never been one to shy away from history.
