Chelsea honour Diogo Jota and brother with heartfelt Club World Cup bonus donation

Chelsea Football Club has pledged part of their FIFA Club World Cup players bonuses to the family of former Liverpool forward Diogo Jota and his brother André Silva, who both died in a car crash in July.

Chelsea Football Club has pledged part of their Club World Cup player bonuses to the families of late Portuguese brothers Diogo Jota and André Silva.

The touching decision came after the team lifted the trophy with a dominant 3-0 final victory over Paris Saint-Germain at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.

The victory brought the club approximately £115 million in prize money, with £11.4 million earmarked for player bonuses. Yet, in a move that speaks volumes about the team’s unity and humanity, both the club and its players agreed to share this financial reward beyond the dressing room walls. This gesture pays homage to the brothers, whose tragic deaths in a car accident earlier this year shook the football community.

A gesture born from bonds beyond the pitch

Though neither former Liverpool forward Jota nor Silva wore Chelsea’s blue, their connection to the squad was deeply personal. They shared a strong bond with Chelsea forward Pedro Neto, who counted both men among his closest friends.

Such a decision shows football’s enduring spirit of camaraderie, where victories are celebrated but grief is shared collectively.
