The Borno State High Court in Maiduguri has sentenced Aisha Alkali Wakil, popularly known as Mama Boko Haram, along with two others, Tahiru Saidu Daura and Prince Lawal Shoyode, to 14 years in prison each for a failed contract deal worth N11 million.
The judgment was delivered on Wednesday, June 25, 2025, by Justice Aisha Kumaliya after the three were found guilty of defrauding a businessman under the pretext of supplying and servicing two X-ray machines.
The case was filed by the Maiduguri Zonal office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), which arraigned the accused persons on September 14, 2020.

According to the charge, the fraud took place in July 2018 through their NGO, Complete Care and Aids Foundation.
They convinced a businessman, Muhammed Ambare, to pay N11 million for a contract that was never fulfilled.
Although they denied the charges, the court went ahead with a full trial. During the proceedings, the EFCC presented one witness and submitted several documents to support its case.
After years of legal delays, the court ruled that the accused were guilty on both counts and sentenced them to seven years each on both charges.
The sentences are to run at the same time.
The judge also ordered that they repay N8 million to the complainant. If they fail to do so, they will spend another seven years behind bars.
The matter began when the defendants persuaded the businessman to deposit the money into the account of another person, Saidu Muktar, who is currently on the run.
The contract was never carried out, and the funds were not returned.
