Afrobeats icon David Adeleke, widely known as Davido, has officially become a voting member of the Recording Academy, the body responsible for organising the GRAMMY Awards.
With this new role, the Nigerian superstar will contribute to the selection process for nominees and winners at the 2026 edition of the prestigious awards.
The Recording Academy confirmed his membership in a video shared on Instagram on Tuesday, featuring Davido alongside other artists welcomed into the fold. The caption read:
“Creating a song or an album takes heart, time, and dedication. ✨ That’s why Recording Academy members including #Davido, #ravynlenae, #offsetyrn, #jessiereyez, #zacbrownband, #anneakikomeyers, #miles.minnick, #mayaelizabethmusic, #damiensneed, #damarismusica, and #stewart_copeland are sharing why your participation matters.”

Davido, who previously earned three GRAMMY nominations in 2024, described the development as a defining moment in his career.
“Understanding the importance of how our voices are heard, I am participating in the GRAMMY Award process. It is a game-changer. I have learned that voting empowers you to have a say in what is considered and voted on in each season. I am honoured to be part of the Recording Academy community, and I look forward to voting,” he said.
His inclusion reflects the Academy’s ongoing efforts to expand and diversify its membership, with a growing number of African and international acts now part of the decision-making process.
Voting for the 2026 GRAMMYs is scheduled to begin on October 3, according to the Academy.
