The Lagos State Directorate for Citizens Rights (DCR) has launched a collaborative initiative with schools to educate students on child rights and access to justice, as part of its broader commitment to fostering a rights-conscious society.

DCR Director, Jonathan Olugbemi Ogunsanya, revealed the initiative during his first official engagement since assuming office.

He hosted students from Fluorescent Junior and Senior Schools on a courtesy visit to the Directorate’s headquarters.Ogunsanya underscored the DRC’s critical role in safeguarding the rights of citizens, particularly children.

He noted that empowering young people with knowledge about their rights was essential for ensuring they can seek redress when necessary.

“Our aim is to ensure every citizen, regardless of age, enjoys their fundamental rights,” he stated.

“By engaging directly with students, we are laying the foundation for a more rights-aware future generation.”

During the visit, around 100 students observed key aspects of the DCR’s work, including mediation sessions and walk-in consultations handled by certified counsellors and mediators.

School coordinators commended the Directorate for its dedication to human rights and urged it to maintain its impartial and just approach in handling cases.

The visit marks the beginning of a wider outreach campaign by the DCR to partner with educational institutions across Lagos, reinforcing its mission to promote public education and broaden access to justice.
