Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State has decamped from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

His decision was followed by his predecessor, Ifeanyi Okowa, who also moved to the APC.

Okowa served as vice-presidential candidate during the 2023 election under the PDP.

His defection was announced on Wednesday during a media briefing in Asaba after a PDP stakeholders’ meeting.

Senator James Manager, who addressed journalists, revealed that a formal event to mark the defection would take place on Monday.

According to him, the entire structure of the PDP in Delta has now moved to the APC, indicating a major political change in the state.

Oborevwori, Okowa, and the Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Hon. Emomotimi Guwor, were all present at the meeting where the announcement was made, along with several other top PDP leaders.

Delta State Commissioner for Information, Charles Aniagwu, confirmed the development.

He explained that the switch was meant to help the state grow and tackle challenges more effectively.

He said the move was made to ensure continued progress in areas such as infrastructure, public safety, and general wellbeing of citizens.

Aniagwu noted that staying in the PDP could have affected the administration’s ability to deliver on its goals, describing the decision to move as necessary for better cooperation and more results.

He assured the people of Delta that the defection was in the interest of the state and not for personal benefit.
