Northern governors pledge full support for Tinubu

The governors of Nigeria’s 19 northern states have reaffirmed their support for the federal government and outlined a comprehensive plan for security and economic self-reliance.

Meeting under the banner of the Northern States Governors’ Forum (NSGF) at the Gombe State Governor’s Lodge in Asokoro, Abuja, the leaders issued a communique highlighting their “steadfast commitment” to President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

Chaired by Gombe State Governor Inuwa Yahaya, the forum stressed that addressing the region’s persistent security challenges remains its top priority.

The governors commended the ongoing efforts of the Nigerian Armed Forces and urged citizens to continue supporting the nation’s security agencies.

The communique noted that coordinated action among northern states has already begun to yield tangible results, with the governors pledging to strengthen collaboration and consolidate these gains further.

The discussion also turned to long-term development and financial independence.

The governors agreed to engage specialised consultants to identify and tap into underutilised revenue sources across northern states.

They committed to advancing the New Nigeria Energy Company (NNEC) initiative, part of the Sun Africa Project, which works closely with the Presidential Implementation Committee on Technology Transfer to increase the region’s energy capacity.

Plans are underway to restructure the NSGF itself, aiming to professionalise the forum for more effective policy execution and strategic engagement.

The meeting drew broad regional representation, including Benue State, where Deputy Governor Sam Ode represented Governor Hyacinth Alia.

Also in attendance was the Secretary to the Benue State Government, Deaconess Selumun Deborah Aber.

As the North navigates a critical phase in its development, the NSGF’s latest resolutions signal a decisive shift from fragmented governance toward a unified, tech-driven, and economically focused approach to regional leadership.
