The Democracy Day celebration falls on Friday, June 12, marking 33 years since the June 12, 1993 presidential election won by the late Chief Moshood Kashimawo Olawale Abiola. The poll was annulled by the military regime of General Ibrahim Babangida, a development that sparked a long pro-democracy movement that later shaped Nigeria’s return to civilian rule.
