The alleged Director-General of the much-criticised Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council (PFIPC), Adeniyi Adeyemi, has made an appeal to President Bola Tinubu to set up an independent, multi-stakeholder panel tasked with conducting the investigation into the council.
In a public letter written to the president, Adeyemi contended that the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), which was mandated to conduct the investigation following the order of Tinubu, cannot be completely neutral since it is an organ of the executive branch.
He stated that any government structure cannot investigate an issue involving key actors within the administration.
In order to gain trust at the level of both the citizens and internationally, Adeyemi suggested that the investigative panel be formed by a coalition that includes a variety of stakeholders.

This includes human rights watchdogs like Amnesty International, local civic organisations, independent media personnel, and foreign financial inspectors.
Moreover, he suggested the inclusion of diplomatic observers from the UN, USA, UK, EU, AU, and ECOWAS and the limited use of the ICPC and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) as purely technical partners.
Adeyemi said that he would come forward with factual evidence in the form of records and documents as soon as such an impartial panel was formed.

Though grateful to the President for conducting a review of the issues involved with the PFIPC along with its ₦1.3 billion budget in the 2026 Appropriation Bill, Adeyemi raised serious security issues about himself.
He further argued that reliable information suggests that there is an existing conspiracy to murder him upon surrendering to police custody in light of the present system of administration that is unmonitored.
Adeyemi supported his concerns by referring to certain highly suspicious occurrences associated with the late mediator in the case, Dolapo Babatunde Tanimola.
Despite the explanations given by the states as to how the death of Tanimola occurred because of the fire outbreak in the hotel located in Utako, Abuja, Adeyemi highlighted the total lack of independent media and eyewitness confirmation of the event.
Additionally, he questioned the reason why unknown armed people were quick to demolish the whole hotel building within a few days, an act which, according to Adeyemi, resulted in destroying a crucial crime scene.
The disagreement continues due to the claim of the presidency about the fictitiousness of the PFIPC and the several charges of forgery of state letterheads and presidential appointment documents that Adeyemi is facing.
He earlier claimed that the President’s Chief of Staff, Mr Femi Gbajabiamila, and other high-profile government officials sought to break up the council because he refused to carry out some unauthorised instructions given to him.
In the past, during one of his media briefings, Adeyemi asked how an imaginary body would manage to obtain a line item of billions of naira in the country’s budget, claiming that he had spent ₦400 million through agents but rejected another ₦200 million demanded from him.

In a recently aired show on Channels Television, Adeyemi was ready for the courts’ investigation, saying that he is ready to allow the judiciary to make their decision about whether he did the right thing.
