Nigerian media personality, Oladotun Ojuolape Kayode, popularly known as Do2dtun, has taken a swipe at Nigerians who left the country but still warn others against relocating.
The entertainer, who once worked as an on-air personality, expressed his frustration on Tuesday in a post shared via his X account. He described it as unfair for people living abroad to discourage those still considering the move.
In his words, “If you japaed, stop advising people on why they should not come over. If you haven’t moved back to Nigeria; you still live there, please shut up. You are not qualified to discourage people who want to follow the same path. Keep your advice to yourself. If e too hard, come back. Let others try.”

His statement sparked immediate debate online, drawing mixed responses from Nigerians. While many backed his position, applauding him for saying what others had been reluctant to express, some argued that migrants were only highlighting the difficulties they faced to help prospective migrants prepare better.
The discussion adds to the ongoing controversy surrounding “japa,” a term widely used to describe the increasing trend of Nigerians relocating to other countries in search of improved opportunities.
In the last few years, large numbers of Nigerians—particularly young professionals—have moved to destinations such as the United Kingdom, Canada, and the United States.
Although some migrants return with success stories, others complain of the hurdles of adjusting to new systems, job hunting, and dealing with the high cost of living. This contrast in experiences has fueled conflicting advice to those still in Nigeria weighing their options.
Do2dtun, however, insisted that unless those abroad have returned home, they are not in a position to discourage others from attempting the same journey.
