The 2027 presidential candidate of the African Action Congress, AAC, Omoyele Sowore, has cautioned Nigerians against falling for what he described as former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s attempt to mislead them on the issue of fuel subsidy.
Sowore gave the warning in a post on his verified X account on Friday, while insisting that the AAC had remained consistent in its opposition to the removal of the subsidy.
He accused Atiku, who is the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, of changing his position on the matter and attempting to align himself with growing opposition to the policy.
News Round The Clock recalls that Atiku had promised to restore the fuel subsidy regime if elected president in the 2027 general elections.
The former vice president had argued that the removal of the subsidy by President Bola Tinubu’s administration had failed to produce any benefits for the country.

Reacting to Atiku’s position, Sowore said, “Don’t let Atiku Abubakar and his clowning group deceive you about fuel subsidy or pretend that they are responsible for the panic now gripping the failed Bola Tinubu regime.
“It was our firm and uncompromising stance at the Nigerian Bar Association Annual General Conference in Port Harcourt that sent the Tinubu regime scampering.”

The AAC candidate further claimed that his party had consistently maintained its position on the subsidy issue, unlike what he described as establishment politicians who change their positions for political reasons.
“We have been consistent on this issue, while these establishment politicians keep shifting positions according to political convenience and foreign capitalist control.
“They should not be allowed to rewrite history or suddenly present themselves as the opposition,” he tweeted.
