EFCC chair urges students to uphold integrity, reject financial crimes

Ola-Olukoyede-EFCC

The Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede, has called on students to reject economic and financial crimes and commit to a life guided by integrity and sound moral values.

Olukoyede made this appeal during the recent induction of students from Excellent Kiddies Academy, Bwari, Abuja, into the EFCC Integrity Club.

The EFCC boss, who was represented at the event by Tony Orilade, Assistant Commander I and Head of the Interface Unit in the Public Affairs Department, stressed the importance of choosing friends and role models who embrace honesty and good character.

“To build a successful future, you must start on the right foundation,” he advised.

“Surround yourselves with friends and peers who will help you grow in wisdom and integrity.”

He also warned the students against falling under the influence of individuals involved in financial crimes, noting that association with such people could lead them into criminal activities with serious legal consequences.

“Anyone who chooses the path of financial crime risks imprisonment. A conviction not only leads to time in jail but also permanently disqualifies the individual from holding public office in Nigeria. It’s a steep price to pay for following the wrong crowd,” Olukoyede cautioned.

He further explained that the formation of Integrity Clubs in primary and secondary schools is part of the agency’s strategy to instil ethical values in young Nigerians early, as part of its ‘catch them young’ initiative.

According to him, the clubs are designed to groom children into ambassadors of integrity within their schools, families, communities, and the nation.

Also speaking at the event, Aisha Mohammed, Assistant Commander II and Head of the Enlightenment and Reorientation Unit of the Commission, educated the students on the EFCC’s role in combating corruption and financial crimes.

She encouraged the children to practice honesty, discipline, and integrity in their daily lives.

“Integrity and honesty will never go out of fashion. These are timeless values that open doors and keep you on the right track,” she said.

The induction ceremony featured a quiz competition focused on the EFCC’s work and anti-corruption efforts.

Two students, Glory Okinbaliyi and Divine Oyaniyi Bimbola, emerged as winners and were each awarded an Android smartphone.

In his closing remarks, the school’s Integrity Club Coordinator, Gbenga Jatau, expressed gratitude to the EFCC for establishing the club at the school.
