Prominent political figures from Ekiti State, including former Governor Ayodele Fayose and Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele, have pledged their full support for Governor Biodun Oyebanji ahead of the 2026 governorship election.

The endorsement came yesterday during a reception in Abuja themed “An Evening with Senator Dayo Adeyeye”, held in honour of the newly appointed Chairman of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Senator Dayo Adeyeye.

Speaking on behalf of former governors in the state, Fayose described Oyebanji as a unifying leader who has restored stability to Ekiti’s political environment.

He commended the governor’s achievements in infrastructure development, workers’ welfare, education, agriculture, and rural transformation, noting that his humility and people-centred governance have earned him broad-based support.

“Your Excellency, I didn’t install you, but I’ll campaign more than those who did,” Fayose declared.

“I won’t wear your party’s logo, but I will be on the streets for you. None of us will oppose your second-term bid. We have all agreed—myself, Governors Adebayo, Fayemi, and Segun Oni—to back you.”

The former governor stressed that political affiliations should not stand in the way of progress, adding that Oyebanji represents continuity, stability, and good governance in Ekiti State.

In his goodwill message, Bamidele hailed Oyebanji’s leadership as both exemplary and transformational. He praised the governor’s ability to deliver impactful projects across all sectors while upholding transparency and accountability, saying it has earned him the admiration of both political leaders and citizens.

Bamidele also commended Adeyeye’s appointment as NPA Chairman, stating that his wealth of experience and commitment to public service would strengthen the agency and boost Nigeria’s maritime sector.

Responding to the show of solidarity, Governor Oyebanji expressed gratitude to the leaders for their support and unity of purpose.

He described the event as a testament to the growing political harmony in the state and affirmed his commitment to sustaining progress and development.

On Adeyeye’s appointment, the governor said: “To the management and staff of the NPA, you cannot get a better Chairman. Ekiti men are loyal, detailed, and straightforward. Senator Adeyeye will add value to the NPA.”

In his remarks, Adeyeye thanked President Bola Tinubu for the opportunity to serve and promised to lead the NPA with integrity and vision.

He also expressed strong support for Oyebanji’s re-election, pledging to mobilise support across all local governments in the state.
