For the second year in a row, Ons Jabeur has lost the Wimbledon women’s singles final, this time to Czech Marketa Vondrousova.
The sixth seed lost to the unseeded player in straight sets 6-4 6-4 on Saturday afternoon. It is Vondrousova’s first Grand Slam victory.
28-year-old Jabeur reached the final after beating second seed Belarus’ Aryna Sabalenka in three sets on Thursday. Jabeur had lost last year’s final against Kazakh player Elena Rybakina.

Vondrousova joins Jana Novotna and Petra Kvitova as the only Czech women to win a Wimbledon title.
Vondrousova is ranked 42nd in the world following her six-month absence from the sport of last season due to a wrist injury.
She controlled the match against Jabeur, claiming a historic victory as the Tunisian continues her search for a first major.
Ons Jabeur has now lost all three major finals she has competed in and was in tears at the end.
Vondrousova, on the other hand, fell flat on her back as the unthinkable unfolded before her eyes. She had created history.
“I don’t know what is happening – it is an amazing feeling,” said Vondrousova.
The 24-year-old then knelt on the grass after embracing Jabeur in such an emotional moment.
Vondrousova went up the players’ box to hug her team and family. Her husband, Stepan was also present to witness the auspicious occasion.
“This is very, very tough. The most painful loss of my career,” said Jabeur.
Saturday’s final presented itself as the best possible chance for Jabeur to win a major singles title.
