United captain sets new club assist record
Bruno breaks Beckham’s record with 18th assist

Bruno Fernandes has become the first Manchester United player in history to register 18 assists in a single Premier League season.

The Portuguese captain reached the milestone on Saturday after setting up Matheus Cunha’s 43rd-minute winner in a 1-0 victory at Chelsea’s Stamford Bridge. The assist was his 18th of the 2025/26 Premier League season.

Fernandes has already smashed the club’s single-season assist record. He surpassed David Beckham’s previous benchmark of 15, set in the 1999/2000 season, last month. He is now the outright record holder for the Red Devils.

The 31-year-old is now chasing Premier League history. He needs just two more assists to equal the all-time record of 20, jointly held by Thierry Henry (2002/03) and Kevin De Bruyne (2019/20). With five matches remaining, the record is within reach.

Fernandes has been the creative heartbeat of Michael Carrick’s side. His 18 assists have come from open play and set-pieces, showcasing his versatility and consistency. He leads the Premier League assist chart by a significant margin.

Against Chelsea

United’s victory at Stamford Bridge extended their advantage over Chelsea in sixth place to 10 points. The result put them on the brink of Champions League qualification.

Fernandes’ latest assist came at a crucial moment. He produced a wonderful bit of skill down the right-hand side before delivering a perfect pass across goal for Cunha to slot home.

The United captain has been in sensational form since the October international break. He failed to register an assist in any of his first seven league matches of the season but has since provided 18 in his last 23 appearances. His assist rate since being restored to the No.10 role under Carrick has been remarkable.

Fernandes now sits on the cusp of history. If he maintains his current form, the all-time Premier League record will likely fall before the season ends.
