The federal government has declared Thursday a public holiday in commemoration of this year’s Workers’ Day, which is observed annually on May 1.
The announcement was made by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, in a statement issued on Tuesday.
In the statement, Tunji-Ojo praised Nigerian workers for their dedication and sacrifices, acknowledging their role in advancing the nation’s development both locally and internationally.

He emphasised the importance of peace in achieving industrialisation and economic growth and called on workers to adopt a culture of innovation and increased productivity.
“There is dignity in labour; the dedication and commitment to the work we do is vital to nation-building,” the statement reads.
“This administration is fully committed to the security of life and property of every citizen and foreigner in the country.
“While wishing workers a happy celebration, the Honourable Minister urged Nigerians to keep hope alive as the present administration of President Bola Tinubu is committed to the Renewed Hope Agenda he has promised.”
The minister also urged workers to raise the standards of their professions, adding that such commitment would enhance governance and ensure that citizens benefit fully from the country’s wealth and resources.
