FIFA will present Super Bowl-style championship rings to the winners of the World Cup final on Sunday.
The move marks a historic first for the tournament’s 96-year history. The winning team will receive 30 bespoke rings. Each ring features the World Cup trophy on one side and a customised design showing the winning nation’s identity on the other.
A further 1,996 rings will be sold to fans as official licensed products. FIFA described the rings as “the perfect lifelong fit for an achievement that will echo through eternity”.
US President Donald Trump will attend the final and present the trophy. He has not attended any of the 102 World Cup matches so far.
Trump was embroiled in the tournament’s biggest controversy after calling FIFA President Gianni Infantino to seek a review of US striker Folarin Balogun’s red card. Balogun’s ban was suspended, but the US were eliminated 4-1 by Belgium.
Championship rings have long been a feature of North American sport, including the NFL’s Super Bowl, NBA Finals and MLB World Series. FIFA said the move brings “one of the most recognisable American sporting traditions to the global game”.
The captain and head coach of the winning team will receive temporary rings immediately after the final, with the 30 permanent rings custom-fitted and presented at a later date.

The new rings have drawn criticism as another Americanisation of the World Cup. FIFA has already introduced a half-time show and hydration breaks used for commercials. However, some players have previously commissioned their own championship rings to commemorate silverware.
Spain and Argentina will contest Sunday’s final. The winner of the 2026 FIFA World Cup final will leave with the trophy, gold medals and now a championship ring.
