The Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, has announced the immediate dissolution of the State Executive Council.

The directive, contained in a special announcement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Onwuka Nzeshi, was made public on Thursday.

This move effectively relieves all sitting Commissioners and Special Advisers of their duties within the state cabinet.

To ensure that government business continues without interruption, Fubara has instructed all outgoing officials to hand over their responsibilities to the Permanent Secretaries or the most senior career officers in their respective ministries.

The governor emphasised that this transition must be carried out with immediate effect, signalling a swift reorganisation of the state’s leadership structure.

Despite the sudden nature of the dissolution, he expressed his “deepest appreciation” to the departing council members for their service to Rivers State.

The statement noted: “His Excellency further expresses his deepest appreciation to the outgoing members of the Executive Council, wishing them the best in their future endeavours.”

The statement did not provide specific reasons for the dissolution.
