Thomas Tuchel’s side needed a win to secure qualification, yet struggled to break Ghana’s disciplined structure. Their attacking rhythm looked slow, predictable, and at times disconnected.
It took 57 minutes before England registered a shot on target, highlighting their lack of urgency. Meanwhile, Ghana remained dangerous on the counter and threatened a surprise breakthrough.
Tuchel reacted by introducing Bukayo Saka, carefully managing his Achilles recovery. Morgan Rogers also replaced Jude Bellingham as England searched for creativity.
Saka tested Benjamin Asare with a sharp effort, while Nico O’Reilly struck the crossbar. Manchester City defender Marc Guehi also came close, seeing his header cleared dramatically off the line.
England, however, rode their luck late on after a controversial challenge by Ezri Konsa. Ghana’s penalty appeals were waved away, sparing Tuchel’s side a potential defeat.

Despite controlling possession, England lacked the X-factor needed to unlock Ghana’s deep defensive block. Their movement remained rigid and their ideas limited.
Tuchel admitted, “Schlotti will be greatly missed on the pitch as an outstanding defender”, though his focus now shifts to attacking improvements.
Anthony Gordon again failed to impress, increasing pressure from Marcus Rashford. Noni Madueke, however, offered flashes of energy and intent.
