Ghana sack head coach Otto Addo weeks before World Cup

Otto Addo leaves his role as manager of Ghana's national team, just 10 weeks before the commencement of the 2026 World Cup.

Ghana have sacked manager Otto Addo, 72 days before the start of this summer’s World Cup. The decision lands like a thunderbolt after consecutive losses during the current international break.

Addo’s departure followed a 2-1 defeat by Germany in a friendly in Stuttgart on Monday, and a 5-1 thrashing by Austria in Vienna last Friday.

The Black Stars, who are in the same World Cup group as England, have lost their last four games and struggled for cohesion.

Despite attacking talents like Manchester City’s Antoine Semenyo and Ghana’s Mohammed Kudus, performances have remained inconsistent.

Ghana face urgent rebuild as World Cup countdown intensifies

Following the Germany game, the Ghana Football Association said it had “parted ways” with Addo and his exit was “effective immediately”.
