Veteran Nollywood actor Chiwetalu Agu has sparked conversations on social media after sharing his views on poverty and effort.
Agu warned that poverty cannot disappear on its own and that praying alone is not enough to escape hardship.
In a video on his Instagram page, Agu explained that while prayer is important, it must be paired with hard work.
He stated that blessings and success are linked to action, and that people must be willing to put in effort to benefit from opportunities that come their way.

Agu also cited scripture that emphasized labour as part of life, reinforcing the idea that effort is necessary for survival and prosperity.
Agu concluded by stressing that anyone who wants to succeed must be prepared to work for it.
Without action, he said, prayers alone cannot change one’s circumstances, and individuals must actively strive to achieve their goals.
He said: “Poverty cannot die by fire. You can pray from now until tomorrow, but if you don’t work hard, poverty will catch up with you. Prayer is important, but without effort, it cannot change your situation. You must be ready to act and work for what you want in life.”
