Veteran Nollywood actor and cultural icon, Pete Edochie, has sparked new discussions with his forthright opinion about the political disposition of the Igbo people.
Speaking in an interview with Afia TV, the revered actor asserted that Igbo men are not naturally inclined toward politics because they find it difficult to tolerate the betrayal and manipulation often associated with political life.
“An Igbo man is not a good politician. And I will tell you why,” Edochie said during the interview. “People who are used to politics or the treachery that characterizes politics can overlook a lot of things. But the Igbo man is not constituted to condole treachery a second time. If you hurt the Igbo man once in politics, he will never give you an opportunity to hurt him again. He will recoil himself. That’s the average Igbo man.”

Edochie, long admired for his deep reflections and pan-African viewpoints, explained that politics in Nigeria often thrives on cunning strategies and backdoor dealings, tactics he believes the average Igbo man finds difficult to accept or participate in.
He observed that this emotional resistance to political betrayal has left many Igbo politicians at a disadvantage, damaging important relationships and derailing potential political success.
“The moment you exhibit treachery in your involvement with an Igbo man, they cut you off. That’s it,” he added.
