“I’m alive, well and grateful for the love of my fans” — King Sunny Ade debunks disappearance rumours

Legendary Nigerian musician King Sunny Ade has debunked rumours of his alleged disappearance, describing the claims as “falsehood and fabricated news.”

In a statement posted to his official Instagram page, the music icon dismissed a viral report dated April 28, 2025, allegedly circulated by Damilola Esther Adeniyi-Adegeye and her associates, claiming he was missing.

“Contrary to the falsehood and fabricated news dated 28th April, 2025 peddled by Damilola Esther Adeniyi-Adegeye and her Associates who declared that I was missing, I hereby state as follows: That I, Dr. Sunday Adeniyi-Adegeye MFR, also known as King Sunny Ade, am alive and well.

“The falsehood about my disappearance or being missing by Damilola Esther Adeniyi-Adegeye and her cohorts are completely false.

“I am alive, well and grateful for the love and support of my Fans, thanks for your concern.”

King Sunny Ade further assured the public of his safety, urging bloggers and individuals behind the rumour to cease spreading misinformation or risk facing legal consequences.

In addition to the statement, the singer also appeared in a video shared on social media, where he thanked his fans for their concern. He clarified that he was not kidnapped but had simply taken time out to rest.

The controversy arose after one of King Sunny Ade’s daughters, Damilola, raised an alarm online, claiming she was unaware of her father’s whereabouts. She alleged that her brother, Dayo—who oversees their father’s affairs—was holding him in an undisclosed location.
