President Bola Tinubu has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Sheikh Abdur Rasheed Hadiyyatullah Iwo, President of the Supreme Council for Shariah in Nigeria.

Sheikh Hadiyyatullah, aged 81, died on Monday and will be laid to rest on Tuesday at the Sheikh Ibn Baz Shariah College of Nigeria in Iwo, Osun State, which he founded and directed.

In a condolence message issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu described the late cleric as a revered Islamic scholar who dedicated his life to the service of Islam and humanity.

“As President of the Supreme Council for Shariah in Nigeria, he provided uncommon leadership and direction to the Council. As a cleric, he lived by the way of Allah and the teachings of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). As a human being, he lived an impactful life, touching many lives through his Shariah College,” the President said.

He also recalled the critical support offered by the Council under Sheikh Hadiyyatullah’s leadership during the 2023 general elections, commending the body for standing for truth and justice in the face of misinformation.

President Tinubu extended his condolences to the bereaved family, the people of Iwoland, and the wider Islamic Ummah in Nigeria, particularly the leaders and members of the Shariah Council.

“Muslims in Nigeria will sorely miss Sheikh Hadiyyatullah’s humility, deep knowledge, and unwavering commitment to Islam,” he noted.

He urged the Council to uphold the late scholar’s legacy by continuing to promote the values of justice, religious tolerance, unity, peace, and harmony.

Tinubu prayed for Allah (SWT) to forgive the deceased, grant him mercy, and admit him into the highest ranks of Jannatul Firdaus.

He also prayed for strength and comfort for the family and community Sheikh Hadiyyatullah left behind.
