Nollywood actress Destiny Etiko has revealed that she lost ₦5 million after placing a bet on the 2026 FIFA World Cup final, an experience she said has made her reconsider gambling.
The actress shared the news on Monday after the final match between Spain and Argentina, where she admitted that her first attempt at betting ended in a major loss.
Etiko had followed the game closely and shared updates on her social media while supporting Argentina in winning the match.
She showed her frustration as the game became difficult for the team she backed.

During the match, the actress also praised Argentina goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez for his efforts in keeping the team in contention before Spain eventually secured victory.

Spain defeated Argentina 1-0 after extra time to claim the 2026 FIFA World Cup title. The victory marked Spain’s second World Cup triumph after their first win in 2010.
The decisive goal came from substitute Ferran Torres during the second period of extra time, giving Spain the advantage after a tightly contested encounter.
Argentina’s hopes were further affected after midfielder Enzo Fernández was sent off late in the match following a second yellow card.
Spain controlled much of the game before finally breaking through to secure the championship.
Etiko did not reveal the exact bet she placed or provide details about how the money was lost, but she said the experience had ended her interest in betting and affected her enjoyment of football.
She wrote on her Instagram page: “First time betting and I lost. Will never try it again. My 5M gone. In fact am done watching football. Anxiety almost killed me.”
