Chelsea forward Cole Palmer is reportedly open to a sensational transfer to his boyhood club, Manchester United. The England international is said to be unsettled in London after two-and-a-half years, missing his hometown of Wythenshawe. He would not, however, consider a return to Manchester City while Pep Guardiola is manager.
This emerging story has sparked a major transfer saga. Manchester United’s director of football, Jason Wilcox, is a known admirer. Wilcox previously oversaw Palmer’s progress in the City academy.
Chelsea has moved forcefully to shut down this speculation. The club considers Palmer “untouchable”. He signed a long-term contract until 2033 last season.
Chelsea’s firm stance
Manager Liam Rosenior has publicly denied any issue. “I’ve had numerous conversations with Cole, and he seems very, very happy to be here,” Rosenior stated. He attributed any frustration to injury management, not discontent.

Palmer’s current season has been hampered by physical problems. A groin injury required careful management. He has made only 13 appearances this season.
This followed a standout previous year. Palmer scored 15 Premier League goals and provided eight assists last term.
Transfer insider Ben Jacobs called a move to United a “non-starter”. He cited Chelsea’s refusal to sell and United’s recent signings in Palmer’s position.
Transfer Insider pours cold water
The broader Manchester City context is also relevant. There is growing internal concern at City that Guardiola could leave when his contract ends. This uncertainty overshadows the club’s other issues.
