Veteran Nigerian singer Innocent Idibia, widely known as 2Face, has weighed in on the ongoing controversy surrounding comparisons between global Afrobeats star Wizkid and late Afrobeat icon Fela Anikulapo-Kuti.
The debate intensified after Wizkid sparked backlash by stating that he is “bigger” than Fela while responding to criticisms from Seun Kuti over repeated comparisons between the Ojuelegba singer and the legendary musician.
Speaking in a preview from an upcoming episode of the Mic On podcast, 2Face dismissed the comparison, describing it as inappropriate and misguided.

He stressed that such narratives undermine Fela’s enduring legacy while also placing an unfair burden on Wizkid.
According to the African Queen crooner, equating both artists fails to recognise the distinct eras they represent, as well as their different influences and contributions to Nigerian music.
“Comparing Fela with Wizkid is ridiculous. Apart from the fact that it is disrespectful to Fela, and at the same time, it is also unfair to Wizkid,” 2Face expressed.
