Jack Dorsey launches Bitchat on App Store

Jack Dorsey’s peer-to-peer Bluetooth messaging app, Bitchat, is now live on Apple’s App Store for iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Vision Pro.

The free app was built under and Other Stuff, an open-source development collective funded by Dorsey. It enables encrypted communication with nearby users without requiring phone numbers or email addresses.

Bitchat supports event-based interactions, relying on proximity detection. A Panic Mode feature allows all user data to be erased instantly with a triple tap.

Dorsey described the project as an experiment in Bluetooth mesh networks, encryption models, relays, and “store and forward” techniques for message delivery.

The app functions without internet access, remaining useful in areas where mobile data or Wi-Fi services are disrupted or restricted by authorities.

Bluetooth mesh messaging applications emerged more than a decade ago, but Bitchat’s open-source foundation and security tools mark Dorsey’s latest technology venture.
