Ahead of the 2027 general elections, Abdul-Azeez “Jandor” Adediran has withdrawn from the Lagos State governorship race, signalling a strategic realignment within the All Progressives Congress (APC).

He announced his decision on Thursday, just days after obtaining his Expression of Interest and Nomination forms under the party.

Jandor, convener of the Lagos4Lagos Movement, said he stepped down to preserve party cohesion following the endorsement of Deputy Governor Hamzat by President Bola Tinubu and key APC leaders in Lagos, including the Governance Advisory Council (GAC).

The endorsement effectively set the tone for the party’s succession plan in the state, leaving little room for internal contest.

“Leadership demands the courage to take tough decisions in the interest of the collective,” Jandor said.

“In line with the endorsement of Kadiri Hamzat by our leader, the President, and party leadership in Lagos, I have chosen to withdraw.”

He clarified that his decision should not be seen as a sign of weakness, but rather a calculated move rooted in loyalty and long-term political strategy.

Jandor reaffirmed his strong support for Tinubu, stressing that the President’s leadership remains central to both party stability and national direction.

His withdrawal underscored a renewed commitment to party supremacy, a principle often emphasised within the APC, and may help ease tensions that have trailed the Lagos4Lagos Movement’s relationship with the party’s mainstream structure.

Support

Addressing his supporters, Jandor maintained that the ideals of the Lagos4Lagos Movement, centred on fairness and inclusion, remain intact.

He thanked members for their steadfast support and urged them to remain calm and focused as the political landscape evolves.

Rather than signalling an end, he described the development as part of a broader journey, calling for unity and consolidation at a critical moment for the party.

Jandor’s exit has effectively cleared the path for Hamzat, who already enjoys the backing of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and other influential stakeholders.

With one of the most prominent internal contenders stepping aside, the APC in Lagos now appears to be coalescing around a single direction ahead of its primaries.

Jandor encouraged his supporters to remain committed to the party, indicating that his political structure would now fully align with the President’s vision for Lagos State.
