Former Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, has thrown his weight behind the emergence of Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat as the All Progressives Congress (APC) consensus governorship candidate for the 2027 elections.

In a statement issued yesterday, Ambode described Hamzat as a committed party loyalist whose emergence reflected years of steady engagement and dedication to the APC.

His endorsement reinforced a growing sense of unity within the Lagos chapter of the party, coming shortly after Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and the influential Governance Advisory Council (GAC) publicly backed the same position.

Ambode stated that Hamzat’s emergence followed extensive consultations across the party’s structures, underscoring the APC’s emphasis on cohesion and continuity.

He noted that the decision was a reward for long-standing loyalty, hard work and consistent service, adding that Hamzat’s experience in governance positioned him well to lead the state.

Shifting focus to the 2027 general elections, Ambode reaffirmed his support for President Bola Tinubu and outlined a clear electoral strategy for the Lagos APC.

He set a target of at least three million votes for the President’s re-election, while also calling for coordinated efforts across the South-West to secure strong results for the party.

He further urged party members to ensure a clean sweep of APC seats in the National Assembly.

Ambode argued that sustaining the current administration’s policies remained key to Nigeria’s economic progress.

He expressed confidence that ongoing reforms would soon begin to deliver tangible benefits.

He maintained that the prosperity of both Lagos and the wider country depended on continuity in leadership, adding that party members were ready to mobilise fully for decisive victories in 2027.
