Kano court orders TikTokers to marry within 60 days over immoral videos

A magistrate court in Kano has directed two popular TikTok content creators, Idris Mai Wushirya and Basira Yar Guda, to get married within 60 days after their videos were accused of violating the moral codes of the state.

The order came after the duo appeared in viral clips that the Kano State Films and Video Censorship Board described as indecent and offensive to the cultural and religious values of the state.

The videos showed both creators engaging in acts viewed as inappropriate by local authorities.

During the court sitting on Monday, Magistrate Halima Wali instructed the Kano State Hisbah Board to ensure that the marriage between the two TikTokers is conducted within the given timeframe.

She also warned that failure to comply would amount to contempt of court.

The court further directed the Chairman of the Kano State Films and Video Censorship Board to supervise the process to ensure the order is carried out.

Both content creators had earlier faced charges for allegedly producing and distributing obscene content on social media.

Idris Mai Wushirya was previously remanded in a correctional facility after one of the viral videos featuring the female TikToker sparked public outrage.

The Kano Censorship Board insisted that their actions breached state laws that prohibit the creation and circulation of sexually suggestive or immoral material online.
