The Kwara State Government, through the Kwara State Primary Health Care Development Agency (KWSPHCDA), is set to commence a statewide Polio Immunisation Campaign across all 16 Local Government Areas.

The exercise will run from December 6th to 9th, 2025.

The campaign forms part of the state’s commitment to safeguarding the health of children and sustaining its polio-free status.

It aims to ensure that every eligible child under the age of five is vaccinated, thereby strengthening immunity and preventing the resurgence of poliovirus, with the support of development partners and frontline health workers.

During an orientation programme held on Monday for supervisors and key stakeholders, the Executive Secretary of the KWSPHCDA, Nusirat Elelu, commended the teams for their unwavering dedication and urged them to surpass previous performance, stressing that this round is an opportunity to demonstrate excellence and teamwork.

Elelu also praised Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for his robust investments and sustained support in the health sector, affirming the government’s commitment to strengthening the Primary Health Care system.

The State Coordinator of the World Health Organisation (WHO), Emmanuel Eyitayo, applauded the supervisors but urged them to maintain vigilance throughout the campaign.

Eyitayo emphasised the importance of accuracy, transparency, and integrity in data collection and reporting, cautioning against any form of data falsification.

He also called for strict measures to prevent vaccine wastage, noting that such issues had occurred in previous rounds.

In her remarks, the State Immunisation Officer, Sarat Yunus, encouraged teams to be focused and proactive, stressing the importance of immediate reporting of any misconduct.

She warned that any health personnel who fail to adhere to set rules and regulations will face consequences.

The public, including parents, caregivers, and community leaders, was urged to cooperate fully with health workers during the house-to-house campaign, as immunisation remains a safe, effective, and essential tool for protecting children.
