The Kwara State Government is set to begin a data-capture programme for transport operators across the state.
The initiative, announced by the Commissioner for Transportation, Lafia Korasabi, is designed to improve transparency, standardise operations, and enhance safety within the transportation sector.
During a meeting with transport union leaders in Ilorin, Commissioner Korasabi explained that the data collection will complement the ongoing Kwara State Residential Registration Programme by fully integrating the transport sector.

He emphasised that the initiative will also assist with policy planning, security, and improving service delivery.
The free registration exercise is scheduled to take place on 22 and 29 September 2025, with registration points set up across all 16 local government areas in the state.
In Kwara Central, the centres include the Union Head Office, Offa Garage, Maraba Garage, Saw-Mill Garage, and the Oko-Olowo/Oloje axis.
For Kwara South, registration will be conducted at the Local Government Secretariats in Offa, Omu-Aran, Ilemona, Owu Isin, Odo Owa, Share, and Araromi Opin.
In Kwara North, the designated locations are the Local Government Secretariats in Bode-Saadu, Lafiagi, Patigi, Kaiama, and Kosubosu.
The commissioner called for the full cooperation of all transport union members to ensure the exercise is successful.
In their remarks, leaders from the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN) and the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) commended the ministry for involving stakeholders in the decision-making process.
They noted that this approach has fostered a strong collaborative relationship.

The union leaders also used the opportunity to urge the government to rehabilitate state-owned motor parks, which they described as being in a state of disrepair.
They argued that the poor condition of the parks deters passengers and negatively impacts their business.
