Manchester United have officially dismissed head coach Ruben Amorim in a major shake-up announced by the club on Monday, 5 January 2026.

The Portuguese tactician, who took charge of the Red Devils in November 2024, was relieved of his duties following mounting concerns over the team’s performances and remarks that reportedly exposed growing internal rifts at Old Trafford.

At the time of his dismissal, United were placed sixth on the Premier League table. Reports indicate that Amorim’s exit came less than a day after he openly criticised the club’s leadership during a post-match press conference following a 1–1 draw against Leeds United.

Club sources revealed that senior figures moved quickly after the interview, in which Amorim questioned his authority and role, intensifying pressure on him barely two seasons into his tenure.

Manchester United are now expected to appoint an interim manager as the club begins the process of searching for a long-term replacement.

Further updates are anticipated as the club prepares for upcoming fixtures.
