Mozambique captain Domingues has stated his team fully respects Nigeria’s pedigree, yet they will step onto the pitch without fear or hesitation.
The Black Mambas face the Super Eagles in Fez on Monday (20:00 GMT+1) with a massive quarterfinal ticket on the line.
Speaking boldly before the crucial Round of 16 battle, he recognised Nigeria’s strength, experience and physical presence, but insisted belief remains high.
“The Nigerian team is very powerful, but we will not be intimidated by that,” he said confidently.
He stressed that Mozambique are not just participating, because they genuinely want to challenge Nigeria and chase something historic in Morocco.
“We want to go there and compete because football is 90 minutes and anything can happen,” Domingues added with determination.

The 42-year-old captain also reflected proudly on Mozambique’s journey so far, describing qualification for the knockout round as a landmark success. He made it clear that success has only increased drive and ambition rather than satisfaction.
“We know the challenges we are going to face. We know we have managed to reach another stage and we are still celebrating our qualification,” he said.
“However, we understand the importance of this game and the kind of match it is… that gives us more strength because we continue to dream.”
Nigeria enter as favourites with their AFCON pedigree, but Mozambique clearly refuse to bow, and they believe history is within reach.
